For the first six years, all my photographs were black and white. I couldn't get enough of it. No matter what I was shooting, I thought black and white was the way to go. My sophomore year of college I took my first class of color photography. I am usually open minded, but I insisted I was only going to shoot color for the semester and then I would return to my "one love", black and white. I really did try to fight it at first, most of my work up until that point had to do with taking portraits, and shooting people, and I couldn't do it in color, not successfully. I was frustrated with myself.

It is this image that officially changed my world. I think all artists have that moment, when they stand back from what they are working on and can't help, but to smile because, finally.... something has clicked.

I am really excited to share this image with you, to this day, it is still one of my favorite photographs. I really enjoy how at first it seems so simple, but then you notice little details. The sliver of each door leaves just enough to see that the handles are different. The curtains are mis-matched, and the chair is just waiting to be filled. I love how, yes, it's a color photograph, but it is not just about the color, but everything else as well.

I had finally taken a successful color portrait, all I really needed was to find a new subject!
